My mother used to religiously spritz our faces with a can of Evian’s Mineral Water Spray during the hot summer days, but as I grew older I lost the habit of doing the same. Had I known the benefits of spritzing my skin with cool, thermal spring water… I probably would’ve never stopped. My rediscovery of thermal spring water was after watching Isabelle Bellis’ video with IntoTheGloss on how to clean your face. I know you’re probably thinking, how hard is it to wash your face? Isn’t it intuitive?
Aside from from falling in love with her gentle, tinkling French accent, have you noticed how naturally plump and glowy her skin looks?! My interest piqued, I dived headfirst into researching the beauty secrets of French women. One of their best-kept secrets–thermal spring water.
Armed with that knowledge, I headed to the pharmacy to pick my ‘poison of choice’, Vichy’s Eau Thermale. Why did I pick Vichy over the other brands?

- Vichy’s Eau Thermale is enriched with the most minerals (e.g. Iron, Potassium, Calcium, Manganese and Silicon) as compared to other brands such as Avène, La-Roche Posay, Uriage and Evian.
- Vichy is dermatologically tested and suitable for sensitive skin, hypoallergenic, and fragrance-free with no preservatives.
- I also made it a point to try out the sprays from all the brands to see which I liked the most. Personally, I preferred Vichy because the bottle’s nozzle produced the finest mist, and felt the most refreshing.
I’ve included it in my cleansing routine for about two months now, and the results have been unexpectedly spectacular! Following the beautiful Isabelle Bellis’ lead, I spritz once before I lather on my facial gel to prep my skin for cleansing, and once more after I’m done washing everything off with tap water. The results? Softer and smoother skin, with the redness around my nose and blotchy patches on my cheeks totally gone. Truth be told, I never thought I’d see so much benefits from such an incredibly simple step. It was then I realized how much damage the chemicals in tap water–such as chlorine and fluoride (the same things keeping our water clean)–was doing to my skin. The thermal spring water helped to neutralize the chemicals, while providing moisture and balancing my skin’s PH levels (good riddance breakouts!).
I also brought a can of Vichy’s Eau Thermale with me to the Maldives, and it provided much soothing relief to sunburned spots. Redness literally disappeared the next morning. Thermal spring water can also be used as an alternative setting spray for your makeup to give you that dewy look. While I still turn to my Urban Decay makeup setting spray to prevent makeup meltdown from day-night wear, I use it sparingly to avoid putting so much chemicals on my face.
Just one tip about using thermal spring water; do not allow it to dry on your face! Allowing it to dry naturally will strip moisture from your face, defeating the purpose of spritzing it on in the first place. Gently blot with a tissue after leaving it on for a few moments, and proceed with your skin care right after.
Thermal spring water is a great inexpensive step to improve the health of your skin, and I highly recommend it. Guardian and Watsons usually hold promotions for double packs of the various brands of thermal spring water, so take your pick. If you’re wondering, Isabelle Bellis is using La-Roche Posay in her video. Mist away!
