Most of us won’t think twice about shelling out for the latest serum to hit the market. When it comes to cleansers however, it can be hard to justify spending hard earned money on a product that doesn’t spend a copious amount of time on your face. While this sentiment is entirely understandably–what most people don’t get is if your cleanser doesn’t do a good job of cleaning out your pores–your expensive serum won’t penetrate and work as well as it should. Getting a good cleanse is the most important part of your skincare routine, something you should never skimp on. My skin is immensely fussy about the types of cleansers it likes, which is why I’m always on the hunt for a cleanser which has all the right moves! I mentioned my desire to try YÜLI Skincare’s Halcyon cleanser in my previous review, and believe the hype you guys because it was love at first cleanse for me.
Described as a gentle daily cleanser for all skin types, Halcyon is an innovative high-tech formulation offering a thorough cleanse without stripping skin or disrupting the delicate moisture mantle. Each pump of this chiral bioactive gel emulsion, made from a direct infusion of organic and wild-crafted botanical extracts promises to:
- Induce radiance
- Imparts skin improving nutrients while effectively removing impurities
- Works in stasis with individual skin needs, providing optimum cleansing and nourishment
- Soothes and calms skin
Gel cleansers are the most suitable for my oily skin type, but most contain Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS), a foaming agent which is a known eye and skin irritant. SLS strips the skin of its natural oils, leading to an eventual overproduction of sebum which causes acne. A vicious cycle of the worst kind. YÜLI’s Halcyon foaming action is derived from Amaranth protein, which contains significant amounts of essential amino acids to repair your skin. The addition of Vitamin C ester and fruit enzymes provide a brightening and subtle exfoliation.
An amazing mix of ingredients give Halcyon its light flowery herbal scent. A hydrosol of Helichrysum and Lavender (probably good enough to use as a facial mist on it’s own!), an infusion of green tea leaf, red algae, chickweed, and sweet olive flower, as well as Bitter Orange and Bergamot oils somehow blend into this intoxicating perfume… Something that gets me up in the morning because I can’t wait to wash my face! That being said YÜLI isn’t the sort of company to include an ingredient just because it smells good, so you can be sure every element is purposeful.
I massage two pumps of Halcyon on a face first slightly dampened (damp not wet!) with thermal water, and then taking my time, gently massage the emulsion all over my face and neck. Don’t expect plenty of lather, you’ll at most see micro bubbles that disappear on contact with your skin. I leave it on while I brush my teeth so the cleanser can do its work. After I’m done with brushing my teeth, I rinse everything off and dry my face. Let me be honest, I am addicted to the way my skin feels after the morning cleanse. Not squeaky clean, just perfectly cleansed. Soft and smooth, not unlike a baby’s bottom.
I’ve also noticed my skin is more balanced than before Halcyon came into my life. I suppose I owe that to Bergamot oil (bergaptene-free BTW!), which is known to be beneficial for problematic skin. I also like to mix a pump or two of Halcyon into YÜLI’s Pure, a tip I gleaned off YÜLI’s Instagram feed. Take two effective products, combine them, and you’ll see results for sure! Halcyon is a definite repurchase for me, and I don’t think I can ever be without it. A 100 ml bottle costs USD52, a price well worth for a cleanse which will leave your face the calmest it’s ever been.
